Spermidine, so called because it was detected for the first time in human semen, is present in numerous foods such as dried fruits, soy, fermented soy products, mushrooms, cereals, sprouts, citrus fruits, dairy products, vegetables, etc..

It is a polyamine, the product of the oxidative decarboxylation of amino acids such as arginine, ornithine and methionine. Some other famous polyamines are putrescine, cadaverine and skatole, all known for their great aromatic essence!!!

Decarboxylation can be performed by our microbiota; alternatively, spermidine can be synthesized by our organism.

To confirm the fantastic properties of spermidine, various studies were conducted.

STUDIES

The first study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, started in 1995 and was completed in 2010. It concerns a group of 829 people between 45 and 84 years of age, following three different diet regimens containing three different percentages of spermidine.

The group following the diet with the highest spermidine percentage showed a mortality risk trend similar to that of a 6 years younger individual.

The second study, conducted in 2009 by the University of Liège, demonstrated a linkage between polyamines and food allergies:

Early childhood products with a lower concentration of spermidine than breast milk lead to food allergies.

In particular, according to the research, if the average spermidine concentration in milk is lower than 2 nmol/ml, the probability of a child developing a food allergy can reach 80%.

This probability seems to reach zero if the concentration in milk is higher than 13 nmol/ml.

The third study concerns 800 men living in Bruneck; it was conducted by a collaboration of the University of Paris and the University of Graz:

the increased consumption of spermidine in the diet reduced the risk of heart disease and hypertension.

PROPERTIES

The absorption of spermidine with food restores cell growth to its physiological levels, thus allowing the phosphorylation and acetylation of histones. At the level of the nucleolus, it promotes rRNA synthesis.

Spermidine promotes CELLULAR AUTOPHAGY: basically, our cells eliminate all the components that are unnecessary and/or no longer functional and use the damaged parts to create new structures. It is a mechanism by which our body recycles its damaged components. Yes, our body also recycles!!!

There are valuable practices, such as fasting, that help and promote this process of autophagy, thus putting the digestive functions of our body at rest and allowing it to make improvements in the company!

The elixir of long life, the source of eternal youth are all located in this truly miraculous polyamine.

In addition to its anti-aging properties, spermidine enhances good sleep because it allows clock genes to work properly, prevents allergies, hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
